Monteith bowls originated around 1680 to keep glasses cold when filled with ice water - a very upper class thing. They are elegant!
This silver bowl made by Motthedeh, which specializes in reproductions and historic designs.
This bowl is very substantial -- well over 2 ½ pounds -- and can be used simply for decoration or as a centerpiece for a floral arrangement, potpourri, etc.
Classic “scallop” around the top, lion head handles.
There is some minor pocking at the bottom inside and some scratches around the bowl.
Weight: 2 pounds 11 ounces.
Dimensions: height - 6.5” and width at the top - 9”.
