Description
Mid Century Modern Teardrop Bowl Designed By John Prip 1955 Reed & Barton 64.This is a very beautiful piece by one of the most iconic designers of the 1950's.
This piece shows a danish influence and is marked with Reed and Barton's 1955 date code (an embossed chamberstick) . The piece is numbered 64 and displays the symbol of an A inside a C. It still has the original Reed and Barton sticker on the bottom in excellent condition. Many have incorrectly attributed the AC mark to Alexander Colander but As I understand it this work is that of John Prip a resident craftsman at Reed and Barton in the 1950's. The AC is actually a CA and denotes the alloy of the piece.
John Axel Prip (1922–2009), also known as Jack Prip, was a master metalsmith known for setting standards of excellence in American metalsmithing. His works and designs have become famous for bringing together the formal, technical tradition of Danish design into harmony with the American desire for innovation. Several of his designs for the Reed and Barton Company are still in production today.
