    Description

1880 PAIRPOINT QUADRUPLE AESTHETIC FOOTED STAR FISH SHELL & CORAL PASTRY STAND
The oldest glass company still in operation in the United States, the Pairpoint Glass Company is headquartered in Sagamore, Massachusetts. Also known as the Pairpoint Corporation and Pairpoint Manufacturing Company, in the realm of vintage metals, the firm is famed for its silver-plated wares, especially glass lamps, its quadruple-plate items, and, of course, its glassware, generally. Although the firm later became well-respected for its silver-plated flatware and tableware, its initial success must be attributed in good measure to the late 19th-century invention of the lightbulb and the rise in the consumption of electricity. Pairpoint nimbly positioned itself as a critical supplier of light sources in this crucial historical moment.
Pairpoint, as we know it today, is the result of the merger of two companies, namely the Mount Washington Glass Company and the Pairpoint Manufacturing Company.
A key figure in this origin story is Thomas Pairpoint, who was employed by silver plate manufacturer and metalworking firm Meriden Britannia Company until 1880. Resigning his post as head designer, he established the Pairpoint Manufacturing Company in New Bedford, which quickly secured its position as the supplier of silver-plated metal mounts for Mount Washington's glass lamps and other wares. These objects showcased Pairpoint's silversmiths and silver-platers' skills, and by 1894, this close partnership solidified into a merger; in 1900, the newly formed entity was titled the Pairpoint Corporation.
